Coming of Spring - Art Journal pages

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

Hi there everyone!
I have been loving playing my art journal...and am constantly jotting
down new ideas for future pages.  Since I will be joining the Design Team
at The Crafter's Workshop next month, I am bubbling over with
inspiration and looking forward to filling this baby up!

This page began watching our garden come to life with daffodils a month or so ago...
and also because the cold weather seemed to drag on here longer than usual.

I found this quote from Gustav Mahler that I thought was perfect, especially using the word 'Calm.'
I stamped these little frames from Lawn Fawn starting at the center of the book
and working my way out...giving myself a place to write each word of the quote.

I knew I wanted to have daffodils in the background and lots of fresh green color,
other than that, I just played!

Thanks for checking out my new indulgence!  I am busy getting ready for lots of new artsy projects and scrapbook pages!  Have an amazing day!

Quick Summer Cards - Come On Get Crafty

Friday, April 24, 2015

This week for the Come On Get Crafty Blog, I made a couple of cards using
the Basic Grey Adrift ephemera pack, some twine and brads.

I used the same formula for both cards...a quick wash of a watercolors, one tag,
another die cut shape and one enamel brad.  I tied some colored twine to the tag,
with lots of extra that I bunched up underneath the tag.

Thanks for stopping by for a quick share!

& then this happened...Scrapbook Circle April

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

This is a layout I made using the Scrapbook Circle April 'Let's Do This' kit and 'Love It' Add-on.
I was totally inspired by the fun doodles and colors around one of the die cuts from Amy Tangerine.

I loved this graphic triangle patterned paper but I wanted it to play a more subtle part,
so using it as a background, I made a loose grid with 4 black & white photos and a few die cuts.

I doodled on white cardstock to mimic the Amy Tan die cut frame and used
a white gel pen to add more doodling to the black background.

If it has a vintage camera on it, I need to have it, buy it, hoard it and someday use it on a layout! :)

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great day!

# AWESOMENESS - Scrapbook Circle April Sketch

Friday, April 10, 2015

Happy Friday!  Yay!
The new April Sketch Challenge debuted on Scrapbook Circle today!
This is my LO using it and the "Let's Do This" kit and "Love It" add-on.

I stuck to sketch pretty close, but scaled it a bit larger since I wanted to use that gold heart on the
paper from Simple Stories...I started with it and then made everything else proportional.

Instead of splatters I used some of the gold sequins from the kit paired with some from my stash.

The colors the kids are wearing worked so perfectly with the April kit.  I used lots of stitching to tie them all together.  You have until April 22nd to enter for the prize!  Can't wait to see all the creations.

Thanks for stopping by and have an amazing evening!

Good Morning Sunshine! - Come On Get Crafty

Thursday, April 9, 2015

Hi there!
Today on the Come On Get Crafty Blog I am sharing my layout using old &
new October Afternoon, with a little other pieces thrown in.

When I saw this new collection from October Afternoon, I immediately thought about this weekend my nieces spent with us.  We had pancakes that I attempted to make into little sunshines.  They didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped, but the level of enthusiasm didn't reflect that.  Best kid response = a real smile.

I had a few old October Afternoon collections that I used paper from.  The colors of all the collections work so well together, despite the age of any of them.  I used the papers for layering and for the banner I cut out at the top of the layout.  The new collection of October Afternoon 'Saturday Mornings' has great Tidbits and Brads that I used for embellishments and the new Elle's Studio alpha stickers for my title.

These photos have been in my stack of December Daily photos...and I WILL finish it...just not this week! ;)
Thanks for stopping by today!  Have an amazing day!

I AM...a work in progress - Scrapbook Circle April Kit Challenge

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

Guess what day it is...?  Happy hump day!

I have been dabbling in art journaling, but never really shared it, just did it for fun, for me.
I decided to get a little more serious about it recently and the April Kit Challenge from
Scrapbook Circle was the perfect time.

Inspired by the Simple Stories "I Am" collection, the kit-inspired challenge this month is to create a layout using the prompt “I Am…” as a jumping off point. It could be the title, how you start your journaling, or just the theme of your page.  I used it and the April "Let's Do This" kit and the "Love It" add-on to make this double page spread in a new art journal book.

I thought it would be great as the beginning, since it is about me.  I used on the of the Simple Stories text papers along with paint, gelatos, distress inks and watercolor for the background.  I also collage in some other pieces I had cut from various Simple Stories papers and die cuts from Crate Paper & Elle's Studio.

I made a scene with a flag banners across both pages, using lots of the triangle die cuts from Crate Paper.  I heat embossed this little jar stamp onto vellum.  Inside each of the jars that hang from the banner, I cut pieces of another paper with little phrases on them, describing what "I Am" doing...

I used one of the digi cuts to cut some plain cardstock on my Silhouette and used it as a mask for this gold embossing paste.  It worked great!  I added drips of this luscious gold Liquitex ink and lots of pen and marker details.

I had so much fun creating it and it certainly pushed me to try new things and let loose a bit!
You can find the original Scrapbook Circle blog post and the rules for the challenge HERE.

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share something a little more personal today!
Have an amazing day!

#tbt - Studio Calico { & video }

Thursday, April 2, 2015

Finally got this video edited back on track for this Thursday!
This is a #tbt using almost all Studio Calico pieces and my son's artwork!

I loved this little car and wanted to make sure I documented how much my son loves his best friend.
I wanted to use this background piece of patterned paper from Canvas Corp.  It has been in a 'to be used'
pile for a couple years...And finally found a home.

Click above for the process video or HERE for my YouTube channel.

I used my white gelato to tone down the wood grain on the veneer word bubbles and used lots of
left over die cuts, star confetti from Christmas and a piece of my son's lined notebook paper.

This piece of arrow paper with the geo tag was a scrap and I thought it worked perfectly with the car.

Friendships at this age are so important and I want them to remember as many as possible.
They are some of my kids favorite pages to look back at in scrapbook albums!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have an amazing day!
