Cardmaking with Stencil & Video Tutorial - New TCW Summer Release!

Hello friends!  I am so excited to have the newest release of stencils and other goodies from The Crafter’s Workshop to play with!  It seems like I have been making the equivalent of a card a day for the past month, so I thought I would just keep it up!

I had this idea in my journal for a while about this technique.  I was inspire by some cards Jennifer McGuire did on her blog using a stenciled background visible under a phrase die-cut into a panel on top.  I am so happy with the way it turned out, but may just use the stencil with the rainbow blended ink all on its own!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

I started with the 3 new stenciled above.  I chose them because of the varying sizes and intricacies of each pattern.  I knew I wanted to have them behind a smaller die-cut phrase, so I needed to pick stencils that would have more area to be stenciled.  I pre-cut all the phrases using my Silhouette Cameo.

I used the large version of this lacey stencil and taped it down to my non-stick mat.  I used a smooth white 85lb. cardstock that takes Distress Ink really well.  I started at the top with red and worked my way down the card with finger daubers and Distress Inks, overlapping them slightly to blend more evenly.

I sprayed some marshmallow Tattered Angels glimmer mist over the white die cut cardstock.  I added lots of dimensional adhesive to the back so that it would create a nice shadow and really show off the colors.
The glimmer mist was a little clumpy so you can see a bit larger splotches, but it reminded me a bit of rain drops!!   I also trimmed it down a good bit, allowing the stencil to create a border around the edges.

For the next card, I used the new size of stencil that is a 6×9.  It is going to be a great size for projects in between the 6×6 and 12×12 and for the pages  of an art journal.

This is the “Rejoice” stencil and was perfect for my sunshine die-cut!
I used several colors of yellow, orange and peach to ink this background, misted the die-cut phrase with glimmer mist and added dimensional adhesive.This is probably my favorite card because I think the stencil pattern is easier to see with the large letter font.  It is so bright and cheerful!

Finally, I had to use the stars from this ‘Cactus’ 6×6 stencil.  I also decided to stencil the die-cut itself and back it with a solid cardstock, so you could really see the stars.

I used these 3 colors of Distress Ink in blues and purples and moved the stencil around a bit to get the stars closer together.  I added some Wink of Stella clear glitter brush pen to the stars to give them some shine too.

I chose a metallic teal colored cardstock from Bazzill Basics that was shared with the DT members.  Using the dimensionals again, I mounted both to a black card base.

I hope this inspired you to think about layering your stencils in different ways to add color and imagery to your projects!
