Hello! I am excited to share a fun mixed media project I created for a Crafter's Workshop post using several stencils, lots of heavy body acrylic paint and a couple different designs from Altered Pages!

I used the 3 stencils below as well as the white, gold, orange and bright pink in the Heavy Body Acrylic paint and Gel Medium in Clear.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

I also printed out 2 different digital & printable designs from Altered Pages. The link to each design is at the end of the post! I love the muted, vintage colors and images with birds, hearts and maps. Those images inspired the stencils I selected to use.

I started with a canvas that was already primed with gesso. I added several shades of NeoColor crayons to add a light color and texture to the background.

After the background dried, I cut out and tore lots of the Ephemera images, pieces of corrugated cardboard, kraft paper and other pieces to collage together.

Using Gel Matte Medium, I adhered the pieces to the canvas, adding other bits of fabric, thread and paper.

After painting on top of the collaged pieces, I added black ink and several of the stencils I chose.

I added some gold, black and white inks around the canvas and a muslin/canvas rosette in the center, adding some gold paint around the edges.

I stenciled a tag to hide inside a little polka dot bag, tucked under this rosette.

Hi there! Jenni here to share an Art Journal page combining some products from Canvas Corp., (during a Spring team up) with the new stencils and media from The Crafter’s Workshop. I used several new medias, the new heavy body acrylic paints and new stencils in multiple sizes! I wanted lots of contrast and here is what I created!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

I began using The Crafter’s Workshop ‘White Gesso’ for a base to my art journal pages… I taped the spine with masking tape beforehand.

Next, I used several shades of pinks, orange and the gold gelatos to create a base of color.

After both pages dried, I used 2 of the Glimmer Mists in yellow and pink with the 12×12 ‘Heart Swirls’ stencil

Again, waiting for the mist to dry, which wasn’t long, I used a patterned brayer and some of the heavy body acrylic to add white polka dots on top of the background.

Next, I added some gaffer tape with text on it and daubed on some dark grey ink on a piece of this stencil with the hearts.

This project being a process of layers, I waited until the ink and mist dried to add some of the heavy body acrylic I mixed and lightened using the ‘Shimmery Goodness’ paint. I used gesso to lighten it as well, since the Shimmery paint is just that, adding a bit of sparkle without altering the color.

I estimated some of the large floral stencils shapes in the ‘Dutch Spring’ stencil when adding paint on the spread.

I added more gesso on top of the wet paint and scraped it to add texture.

Patiently waiting until all of the gesso and paint dried, I used the 12×12 stencil I had planned using, ‘Dutch Spring’ and the Black Modeling Paste to add large shadows of contrasting black.

I didn’t worry about completely covering the stencil area or getting paint under the stencil. I wanted the texture, general shape and of course the contrast.

The following layer, my favorite, ‘Light & Fluffy!’ I offset the stencil to add the white adjacent to the black to create a stark, bold background.

In planning the original spread, I knew I wanted to concentrate on the blacks and white of the Canvas Corp. papers, the media and the contrast those would make with some of the warmer colors of the acrylics. I fussy cut lots of the floral shapes and insects from this thick paper and used the Gel Medium to adhere it to my journal.

This photo shows how opaque the Gel Medium look upon application, but the one I chose, dries to a matte finish.

Adding more vivid color and texture, I used a combination of the yellow, raspberry, blue and white acrylics around the pages.

Everywhere I had black modeling paste of paint, I tried to accent it with some white paint, marker or pen. I doodled a lot over the paint, the stencil and the adhered papers, blending the colors into the collage of media.
