The Crafter's Workshop - Stenciling for a Travel Journal

Friday, October 23, 2015

Hello, Happy FriYay!
This is the project that I made for my post yesterday on The Crafter's Workshop.

I bought several of these little composition notebooks to cover and make into tiny travel journals or notebooks.

I chose the three stencils below; inspired by the plane, post card and date going perfectly with a travel journal!
    Postcard                      TCW2068_2015                          SF Airplane 01A
I measured out some heavy watercolor paper to the combined length of the front, back and spine of the book.  After marking it, I scored along those lines and left a little extra in case I measured incorrectly.

I used three different Distress Inks and misted it with water.  I drug the card through the ink a couple times and left it to dry.

After the paint was completely dry, I used this gold embossing paste over the plane stencil.  The gold added some texture and obviously, the image of the plane, but is subtle enough to blend with the yellow nicely.

Again, waiting for the paste to dry completely, I used a finger dauber and some more Distress Ink to stencil the year across the bottom front cover.  I also added the months across the bottom of the back cover.

While the cover piece dried, I moved on to the packaging!  A small canvas bag that was the perfect size received a misting of a couple different peach tones.  I wanted the words ‘post card’ to be visible and chose the colors to complement the book and the change in season!

I added some ink around the outside edges of the cover piece and used spray adhesive to glue it firmly to the book itself.  Finally, I added a couple pieces of fabric tape along the binding to add a little pattern and tie in the dark green color.

I made a flower embellishment for the front using scraps of gold foil kraft paper, left over raffia ribbon and gold thread.

National Scrapbook Day - Scrapbook Circle Instagram Round Robin!

Saturday, May 2, 2015

Hi there!  Happy National Scrapbooking Day!!  I haven't had a chance to be crafty today,
but I am still counting tomorrow!  This is the fun round robin we are having at Scrapbook Circle!
Start at the Scrapbook Circle Instagram page and go from there!!

I made a collage of all the instagrams we have taken in our garden so fare this Spring.
I loved all the hot pink, it went perfectly with our lilies!

I only had 7 photos so I used the blank spots for the tag and journaling.

I used an old Scrapbook Circle stencil to add some pattern to the background cardstock.
I masked out the shape of a large heart and painted a light wash of watercolor on first,
then used lots of Distress Ink in greens...

Thank for stopping by!  Have an awesome creative Saturday!
