Art Journal Process Video and...

what matters - Art Journal - The Crafter's Workshop July 2018

Hello lovely crafters!  I’m super excited to share this new Art Journal spread I created for The Crafter's Workshop a couple weeks ago.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.


Below are the stencils and lots of various mediums I used.

After prepping my pages with the Clear Gesso, I pulled lots of stencils with repetitive patterns on them and several sheets of Altered Pages vintage printables.  I also used part of a Gold Foil sheet on the Mixed Media Foam from ThermoWeb & Rebekah Meyer that I had left over from Christmas. 

I used gelatos for the base color of my spread.

After I blended the gelatos with water, I used the Gel Medium as a glue to make a collage with the Altered Pages printables.

After the Gesso dried, I used the plain Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste across parts of the pages.

I also stenciled some of the Heavy Body Acrylic paints over the 6x6 Micro Dots stencil. 

Next, I added some Distress Inks over the Paste and the edges of the pages.

I wanted to create a focal point for the girl I planned to paint, so I used this large patterned circle stencil and inked it to the left side of the spread using Distress Oxide Ink.

I cut two angel wing shapes out of this piece of the gold foiled medium base.  Using the wings as a guide, I painted a small shape of a face and torso.

After painting an outline of this girl, I added some of the luscious Champagne Gold Modeling Paste to this 6x6 stencil.

I continued to add detail to my girl and planned for her to hold a butterfly, from another 6x6 stencil, in her hands.  The butterfly didn't come out as clear as I had intended, so I tried to outline it with white gel pen and some other colors.

Be Kind - Art Journal - The Crafter's Workshop November 2017

Hello friends!  Recently celebrating our Thanksgiving Holiday in the U.S., I felt the desire to create something in my art journal in recognition of that!  I also filmed the process which can find by clicking below or HERE.

                     

                      

                      

                      

With no real plan in mind for this art journal spread, except for a quote and a some paint colors picked out, I started laying down a base layer of gelatos, stenciled ink and paint.

I added another layer of Gesso over the central portion of the spread.

I used one of the 12x12 stencils of a girls face to trace the shape over the area.

Adding a combination of watercolor pencils, watercolor and acrylic paints I used the pencil lines as my guide.

I finished painting the girl and then covered the left side of her face with additional layers of media.

Adding more opaque areas of white paint, I wrote my quote and stamped a couple phrases.

Grace - Art Journal Spread for The Crafter's Workshop

Hi there! In an effort to catch up, I am share a new Art Journal page combining new stencils and media from The Crafter’s Workshop.  I used several new medias; the new heavy body Gold Iridescent paint, Black Modeling Paste and new stencils in multiple sizes!  I wanted to continue my contrast using black, bold colors & gold…

 As usual, I began using The Crafter’s Workshop ‘White Gesso’ for a base to my art journal pages… I taped the spine with masking tape beforehand.  I try to gesso a spread in advance and have them ready.Next, I used several shades of pinks, orange and yellow watercolor crayons to create a base of color.  I used a wet paper towel to blend the colors mute the colors a little.I started using Distress Inks and the leaves and branches on part of the ‘Birds on Branches’ stencil.  I created a framework in the corners and edges with those leaves.  Next, I used these coral pigment inks and the large sphere to stencil a mirror image across the spread.I kept the ink light around the leaves to highlight them and not mix the colors.After the inks dried, I used the Black Modeling Paste and a couple of the 6×6 Doodling templates around the edges and borders.

Next, I used this scrumptious gold paint to paint over parts of the designs.I had this quote about Grace on a Pinterest board and used the 2 different sizes with the Modeling Paste to add that word.I filled in the remaining words of the quote across the two pages.  Then I just began to doodle!  Using several different widths of black pens, colors markers and white gel pens to add a final layer of depth.I used the flash to photograph the spread below because I wanted to capture the gorgeous quality and power of the Gold Iridescent paint!
