Creating a New Craft Room - Part 1

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

Hello!  After 12 years, we packed up our house and moved to a new home this last July.  My precious craft room went thru several renovations and had finally gotten it to be almost exactly the way I want it....and then we moved.  Which is partly my fault, and to be honest, has been a difficult last few months.  I am trying to think of it as an opportunity to start fresh and create a space designed exactly for how I will use it.

You can click on the video below or HERE to go directly to my YouTube Channel.

Below are some of the pictures after I had moved in enough things to be able to work, and the first phases of the building.
Since these photos were taken, my husband hung the sheetrock, finishing the wiring and starting to mud the sheet rock.

You can see the framing my husband did that included the columns in the walls which follow the lines of the walls upstairs.
This is the opening where where will be a door into the new craft space.

My sweet husband posing for me!

My husband wired outlets on the new craft room wall up above table height so it will
be easier to plug in my sewing machine, die cut machines, etc.

This is the view downstairs which is one large room that we divided, as well as adding a
door to the entire den space, mostly because with two teenagers, noise really does travel.

We have a baby gate to keep the dogs, temporarily, out of the playroom and other downstairs areas.

You can see the walls that enclose the round structural columns, which we used as
an opportunity to create a little art niche at the bottom of the stairs.

So, there is the first step!  The video walk through is obviously after these photos were taken.
I am going to post my sketches that I made of the pieces of cabinetry I have and the organization of the plan as it evolves.

Scrapbook Circle Anniversary BLOG HOP!!

Monday, May 18, 2015

Hi there everyone!!
This month we are celebrating Scrapbook Circle's 9th Anniversary!

To celebrate, this week we are doing a blog hop around to the design team members' blogs to showcase all the fun things we have created with the May Hello Sunshine Kit.

The hop starts at the Scrapbook Circle blog.
Comment along your way while visiting the other team members' blogs. Each comment will be one entry in a
random drawing where we will be giving away FIVE May Hello Sunshine Kits...five kits!  Hello...?!!

This is the LO I created layering several of the Pink Paislee Citrus Bliss Insta embellishments.

I used one of the frames layered with a transparency for my journaling.  Another one was for the title (there were three even though the photos only show 2) and then as mats for my photos.  I used lots of the Scrapbook Circle exclusives from the kit, including the foil cards and the glittered phrase sticker.

I added lots of other embellishments...the more the better on this page!  Finally, I stitched
thru all the frames adding texture and an interactive element for the journaling.

That's it for my page!  We hope you feel inspired today!
Comments close at midnight PST on May 21.
We will post the winners on the Scrapbook Circle blog on May 22.

Next up is the awesome Gina Lideros!!

As a reminder, here is the order for the blog hop:

Presenting the My Creative Scrapbook March kits:

Here is what I created with the MARCH MAIN kit:

I used as many of the Blue Fern Studios chipboards as possible.

I used gelatos to color all them which worked great, especially to make them fade into other colors!

I heat embossed the camera and heart with gold embossing powder.  I love the sparkle it adds!

I used mists to color this chipboard frame and its letters too.

This layout was SO much fun to put together!  I used lots of phrase stickers on top of this
text paper from Simple Stories to highlight different pieces.

I colored some watercolor paper with gelatos and cut them into random squares and rectangles.
I layered all the papers and stickers that had 'I Am' written on them and fussy cut the little banner too.

I used the stickers and papers from the Simple Stories collection along with this Prima flower
to make a mini-album cover for my daughter.  I used the Heidi Swapp gold sticker too!

SCRAPPY BLOG TOUR!!

Monday, August 25, 2014

Last week I was tagged by the super talented Gina Lideros to participate in a Scrappy Blog Tour.
We are on the Scrapbook Circle DT together, but she is on some other fabulous teams as well!
Gina's style is so full of detail and she has an effortless way of combining colors and patterns that amaze me.
Looking at her projects, I can really see the love she puts into them!

Here are a few questions and answers, so you can get to know me and my
obsession that is scrapbooking as part of this scrappy blog tour:

1. What am I working on right now?
I am currently working my way through the September Scrapbook Circle kit
and a couple other exciting projects on the horizon!  Here is a sneak peek...

2. How long does it take me to create a project?
It usually takes me anywhere from an hour to two and a half to finish a project.
That being said, I usually keep a sketchbook handy to jot down some journaling or sketch a LO.  I hardly ever get a large enough block of time to do an entire layout from start to finish, between 2 kids and going back to work part time (last week was my first week back)!  On the weekends though, my super supportive husband takes care of the kids, so I can have an afternoon or evening locked in my craft room!  It is precious, cherished time with paper, photos, music (or catching up on my fav series) and maybe a glass of wine.  ;)

3. What are my favorite things to create with at the moment?
I love my Silhouette Cameo and will cut titles and elements in either white cardstock or  watercolor paper to paint/mist.  I also love chipboard, vellums, and my sewing machine.  I have a Singer Heavy Duty and it
would sew through my craft table with no problem...it is awesome!

4. How does my writing/creating process work?
Like I said, I keep a sketchbook handy and will make a note of a specific photo or event I want to document.  I usually start with photos and they inspire the project's theme or color palette.  If there is a paper or product I want to use, that helps me decide whether I want to print my pictures in color or black & white.  After the photos, usually comes the title/theme of the page and then piling on the embellishments!  Yay!

5. How do I become inspired and stay inspired?
Like many of us, I love Pinterest and the endless barrage of creativity!  I am also inspired by many other things like magazine graphics/fonts, clothing and fabrics and lately, song lyrics! Sometimes, I find the most inspiration looking back at my own work, either by technique, the layout design or reminding myself to do a follow-up page!

6. What is my signature style?
My signature style is fairly eclectic, sometimes varying from simple to busy, but mostly I love layering.  I like the details it brings to a LO, adding just a hint of color or pattern, a little something tucked here and there.  I also love to watercolor, stencil or mist on my pages.  It may only be on a tag or the entire background, but I love the unique and completely customizable (not a word) element it brings!

I am tagging two of my favorite scrappers:
Missy Whidden
Missy has one of the most recognizable styles in the scrapbooking community, they always make me smile!!

Ashley Fowler

Her Blog is called "I Sweat Glitter"...need I say more?  I love her style process videos on YouTube are so inspiring!

Look for their scrappy blog tour posts in a wee
k, next Monday September 1st!!
Thank you so much for letting me share a little bit of myself and my most favorite hobby!
Have an amazing day!
