ME.RRY 2012 - My Mind's Eye Sketch Challenge

Monday, November 25, 2013

I have had these Instax pics on my board since they were taken last December.

When I saw Ronda Palazzari's Sketch from My Mind's Eye, I immediately knew that I needed to use them for this!  I thought this sketch would be perfect, a frame within a frame kind of look.

I am one of those people that really needs to finish one holiday and celebration without getting into the
next one...it seems harder and harder to that these days.  It doesn't mean I won't think about the upcoming
holiday and prepare, I just need to have Halloween before talking Turkey (even if I don't eat it).
And I need to get Thanksgiving finished before breaking out the Christmas decorations...
It can be the next day!  Just not before...I will however scrapbook Christmas ANY time of year!

I made a giant Polaroid frame for my son's Christmas party and all the kids picked
either Santa hats or reindeer antlers to have their picture taken holding it.
They were so cute and had such a ball, I took it up to my daughter's 3rd grade class...
The frame got passed around to almost every other 3rd grade class too!
In fact, by the time we got home, the frame was beat up and I couldn't take anymore...

My Mind's Eye always makes wonderful Christmas collection...most of these are from
this years Vintage Christmas collection and some of the Mistletoe Magic.
Christmas paper + red glitter = Yes, Please!!

Have a great day and last week of November!

ME & YOU together - Scrapbook Circle DT Choice

Sunday, November 24, 2013

This is the 2nd DT Choice page I created with the November ‘Home Sweet Home’ kit
and ‘My Happy Place’ Add-On from Scrapbook Circle.
This layout is a complete contrast to my last DT Choice Post page all about “Making It Manly.”

I had written that a sign of a well put together kit is in the diversity of products,
allowing you to create masculine, feminine and neutral pages.  So, this is my opposite
side of the manly spectrum…super girly!

I was inspired mostly because of these photos I took of my daughter and her best
friend being silly.  The aqua sweatshirt my daughter is wearing made me pull in colors
from the softer side of the papers in the kit and in the embellishments from both the
main kit and add-on kit.

Every time I use my Silhouette Cameo, I cut out some basics that I keep in
a bowl for adding layers or customizing with paint or mist.  I watercolored the
leaves to matching some of the colors in the other stickers and ephemera.
I made a paper rose out of craft and dipped the tips of the petals in copper glitter.
I loved the copper and the peach together.  Very girly!
I used lots of the Allison Kreft and Fancy Pants embellishments and used
the Scrapbook Circle exclusive flair and tags for my title and journaling.

I have one more LO from the November kit to share later this week and then
it is on to December!!  SO many exciting things to see...make sure to come back!
Check out the Scrapbook Circle Idea Gallery for lots of inspiration from all the DT.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

FREE SPIRIT - ADMIT ONE...Scrap Our Stash Challenge # With Stuck Sketches

Friday, November 22, 2013

For this sketch Scrap Our Stash teamed up with STUCK?! Sketches!

The Challenge is to use this sketch below and use any type of wood...paper, stamps, veneers, etc.

This is a great basic sketch that can be manipulated by rotating it and changing it up in lots of ways.
I kept to the sketch pretty close, lots of layers using two photos, but of the same image.

This was from the beginning of our beach trip that was rained out for the first few days.
There was lots of time for indoor activities and playing the guitar was a popular one for my daughter.
After the sun came out, I'm not sure she picked it up again, but it was a nice distraction while
watching the stormy waves from inside!

I used two different wood grain papers and lots of veneers.
I even stamped my feathers, cut with my Silhouette, using wood grain pattern after painting them.

For the prize, you have until November 29th to link up your take on the Challenge at the Scrap Our Stash Blog.
And for another chance to win a prize, you can link your layout to the STUCK?! Sketches Blog.

You can also check out the Challenge Guidelines and see the other DT members inspiration pages on the Blog!
Thanks for stopping by today.

LOVE. ( & New Start to Finish VIDEO )

Monday, November 18, 2013

After taking Wilna's Art Class 2 from Two Peas in a Bucket, I knew I wanted to try something
different with modeling paste and this piece of paper from Maggie Holmes' mini album.
I made it a lot more complicated and took the long way, but that is typical me.

I made a process video, which I shortened a LOT,
and you can click below or go to my YouTube channel!

I couldn't wait to use this die cut from Tanya Batrak that I cut using my Silhouette.
I was also inspired to make a little glitter/sequin pocket
after seeing Elizabeth Kartchner's video last week, also on 2P's.

I used modeling paste and "piped" (if you want to call it that) it onto the border of this framed paper.
Then I painted over it on metallic gold enamel paint...

I don't know if I will ever get tired of the gold trend...and it works so well with these photos
I took a couple weeks ago at the peak of the beautiful fall leaves in our yard.

No journaling, just wanted to document this lovely photo of my daughter who growing up entirely too fast!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

LOLA - Scrapfriends GDT ( & NEW Video!)

Friday, November 15, 2013

A little Friday night puppy love for you all!

This is my LO for the new Scrapfriends Yummy Palette Challenge #19
I was part of the top 5 last month and those lucky peeps get to come back and be GD!

I adore the Scrapfriends Blog, they have AMAZING sketches and the talent is truly off the chart!
I am honored to have been in that group and really enjoyed this page!

I also made a process video for my YouTube channel you can click on below:

One of the things I liked the best about this page was that the colors were cool neutrals
except for that pop of ochre.  I usually can't limit myself to using that few colors, or from that
same range, and I think that made for a bigger impact!  Also, Lola was being a great model...
something not found too often from her! :)

This accidental circle that showed up really freaked me out!  The twine I literally threw into
a pile of hot glue ended up making a weird combination with Lola's back, cheek and rings on her collar.

Since I didn't really have a pre-conceived notion of what I wanted to do with this page,
I just played!  With lots of stamps, stencils and lots of fun.  The more I do that,
the more I think those pages are more successful.  I think as scrapbookers we
sometimes get WAY to bogged down with product and perfection and trends!
It make me want to use tape (ok, washi) to stick a picture on a piece of paper,
write some journaling and call it a day!  Not that I would do that :)
Not today anyway...

Happy weekend and thanks for stopping by!
I love comments and feedback and go check out the awesome challenges and inspiration at Scrapfriends.
...It will make you want to break out some paint and stamps!

my HERO - Scrapbook Circle November

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Good morning!  I wanted to share a layout I did using the November ‘Home Sweet Home’ kit and some of the Add-On kit ‘My Happy Place.’

A great sign of a well put together kit is being able to use the same kit for masculine, feminine and neutral pages.  So, I decide to "man up!"
I have had this photo (a REAL Polaroid) up on my board for years.  It is of my husband with one of his oldest and closest friends from college.  The photo captures their real, true, honest smiles and I love that it was taken off center.

There is a recurrent theme of triangles in this kit, in the form of papers, embellishments, exclusive die-cuts and the stencil that work perfectly with those…I love the retro colors and pattern of this background paper from Basic Grey and  matching canvas feather.

I wanted to grunge it up a bit using the stencil and the exclusive stamp from the October Kit.  I used some chalkboard paint to provide contrast and bring out the blacks in the photo.  I used the stencil with modeling paste that I left white and it really popped on the chalkboard paint.  Scrapbook Circle has begun adding exclusive die-cuts as part of their kits.  One of my favorite ways to customize my pages is to cut lots of these digital files on white cardstock and then watercolor them to match the page or a piece of my project.

My favorite part of this page is this sticker that is from Fancy Pants that says “THINK HAPPY, BE HAPPY.”  That embodies these smiles to me!
Make sure that you stop by the Idea Gallery to see how the other girls were inspired using the same products and share your creation with us on the Scrapbook Circle Facebook Page!
Thanks for stopping by today to see my manly tribute ;)

becoming HARRY...Scrap Our Stash November Stash Challenge

Saturday, November 9, 2013

One of my favorite pages lately that was done for the DT Reveal for the Scrap Our Stash Blogspot
and the current challenge to use 6x6 paper pads.  I have way too many 6x6 paper pads,
but not any more than all the other excess I have ;)

So, I love Challenges like this that make you realize the potential and use those 6x6 paper pads for something specific!  I make all ,y own cards, but I don't always use smaller paper pads like these.
I use what I have that I appropriate but 6x6 pads are SO not just for card makers.  I love the scaled down size, the cheaper price (clearly) and honestly the availability, at least in my personal market for the new products!

This is from Halloween last year (yes, I am that bad of a scrapbooking Mom!) but I loved
all the colors from this Amy Tangerine collections and all he chipboard pieces.  I wanted o user lots of circles because of Sam's faux Harry glasses and so I decide that would be the theme for the entire page.

I used a piece of ivory paper, but misted a white paint with a circle grid on to the background piece.
I used my 6x6 pads to punch out lots of different patterns & layered them with other chipboard
pieces from that Amy Tan collection.

Thanks for stopping by and make sure you go to the Scrap Our Stash Blogspot to check
out all the other DT Inspiration or join the sight to make sure you are included in the
daily inspiration, announcements and prize info!!
Thanks again and have a great day!!

#dream. - Scrapbook Circle November Kit

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

This is one of my favorite pages from the November Scrapbook Circle Kit - 'Home Sweet Home'

I loved this photo and thought this gorgeous paint strip paper from Maggie Holmes was a nice
contrast to the red in the photo.  And the Scrapbook Circle cards that are part of the kit have
that  rich ochre color.  A bit more fall-ish, but I still get to use those lovely aquas! :)

A lot of the die cut files, also part of the kit have hash tags in front of them do I had to
use one with the title.  I have been using paint strips for years to help tie in colors to patterned
papers without adding to much pattern.  And now there are papers and die cuts doing the
same thing!  I love it! So, I added one of my own paint strips to tie in the ochre color and
painted the #thankful die cut tag from SBC in that same color.

I wanted to keep it pretty simple and not take away from the photo and that beautiful
paper but I cut it tapering it down in a stair step to give me a place to tie on some watercolor
drips.  I was thinking of falling into sleep, where the colors are brighter and then fade into a darker
blue or teal...That may be a bit of a symbolic reach, but that is what I was thinking! ;)

The November Kit is full of a wide variety of patterns and colors that all work together.
And some of them, I would never think of but there are little details to tie them all into one kit!
As usual, Lisa did a great job!  Go check it out on the Scrapbook Circle website and visit
the Idea Gallery to see how the rest of the DT used this lovely paper.

take one! SMILE take two?

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

I love Fall, and I love the light that comes with the change in the season...
My husband says that November light makes every photo better.
So, this is the time of year for us to take lots of photos in preparation for a Christmas card.

Of course, the 'goofies' and photo bombs are the kid's favorites, so I thought I should
document a page for each of them!  ( Hence, the title... )

The Pink Paislee 'Hey Kid' collection was perfect for this. I used both the 'Color Wash'
& 'Hey Kid' collections combined to have a little pattern, but also be able to add lots of
embellishments. I used a couple pieces of the Artisan Papers and chipboard to match the
colors and customize the embellishments.  I love ledger paper.  It seems to encourage
journaling and just reminds me of the kids and keeping records.

I love paint and mists but get frustrated with some of the mists and their functionality.
Maybe I don't use them correctly, but I love Color Shine, it is the best to me as
far as consistency.  I should have bought the Gold in bulk! :)

I bought the Color Shine Tinsel and thought it would be way too dark at first.
But, I used it lightly on the ledger paper below and it turned out to match the bold
striped paper and paint splatters Color Wash paper perfectly.

I am not a two-page scrapper, in fact, I honestly only have a couple other ones
and I don't think they are particularly successful.  I thought these went well
together but at the same time are also different.

They might be a good opening page for their individual scrapbooks!
