SHINE BRIGHT like a...Scrapbook Circle DT Choice

Hi there!  I am happy to share my DT Choice for the Scrapbook Circle Blog post.  The September kit, “Shine Bright” is an amazing combination of colors, patterns and embellishments!  I was so inspired by the Amy Tan watercolor resist cards that I created this page using a simple grid.

I rounded all the corners of the patterned papers and my photo to match the resist card that I painted a pale teal color.

The little bag of star sequins included in the main kit were a perfect match for this color palette and the gorgeous background paper in the wood grain pattern.

I used one square for the title, inspired by the kit name, one for the photo, one for the sequin pocket and the resist card.

I added some black paint splatters onto the background paper and stitched a few lines thru some of the grid pieces.  I also added stitching to the left and right sides of the background.

This color combination never bores me and I will always be inspired by these lovely hues!

ALL the GOOD Vibes - Scrapbook Circle August

Today I'm sharing this page I made using the August "Snapshot" main kit.  I also used it in the ABC Back-to-School Alpha posts on the Scrapbook Circle of Friends Facebook page for "G," Glitter.

I used the exclusive stencil that came in the kit to add heat embossing on my background. 

I masked off a triangle to repeat the stencil pattern and to tie in the embellishments on the horse's bridle. 

I am using a combination of gold and tan embossing powder over my stencil and it created an interesting pattern of stripes in part of the heat embossing area.

After heating it up and allowing it to dry, I layered several of different pieces of patterned paper for a photo mat and for some stripes under that cluster.

I chose to use other patterns that contained geometric shapes to tie all of it together.  Finally, I embellished with some of the Pink Paislee tags and white puffy stickers from Freckled Fawn.

I heat embossed over half of this Alpha Thicker for my daughter's initial and tying in more of the stencil.

THIRD GRADE ADVENTURE - Scrapbook Circle Sketch September

Hi there!  This is the page I did using the Scrapbook Circle September Sketch and the 'Hello, Hello' Main kit and Embellishment Add-on.

 

 

This is the sketch below and you can find the original post on the Scrapbook Circle Blog HERE, which has a couple other DT members takes on the sketch.  It was a perfect sketch for several of the photos I took on the first day of school!

 

I pretty much stuck to the sketch using patterned papers and embellishments in the top left corner, including some of the Freckled Fawn glitter stars and Scrapbook Circle acrylic stars.

 

I used these Crate Paper cork stickers from a previous Scrapbook Circle kit for my title.

This sketch is part of the September Sketch Challenge and the prize is SO awesome!

Best Story - Come On Get Crafty May Sketch

Hi there!  Still have a couple more layouts to post from May projects.

Sometimes a sketch is more creatively therapeutic for me, no stress about planning a

page LO and I can just concentrate on the photo and documenting the memory...

I used a light kraft cardstock for the background and then a wide variety of products

from older Crate Paper & American Crafts to new Basic Grey & Elle's Studio.

Come On Get Crafty - WISH Birthday Card

I am sharing a project featuring these awesome colored enamel dots from Freckled Fawn.

I don't think you can ever have enough birthday cards!  I used Distress Inks to watercolor this die cut tag from Pink Paislee in a rainbow of hot pink, orange, yellow, green, aqua and blue.  I tried to match the vibrancy of the enamel dots and of the background die cut card from American Crafts.  I messily heat embossed gold glitter at the bottom of the water color tag.

Instead of using sequins, I thought it would be fun to use these vivid enamel dots around

a tag watercolored n the same colors. Thank for stopping by the Blog today!

A Sketch & Shaker Card - Scrapbook Circle December kit

The December Scrapbook Circle Sketch is for a card, instead of a layout.

It could be used as a traditional LO, but I opted for the card inspiration using the 'Made of Stories' December kit.

I also changed the sketch a bit in terms of dimension; using the 'tag' to become a recessed window for a shaker card.

I have been dying to make one, especially after watching the growing popularity and amazingly innovative shaker cards being made.  I used the 6x6 paper pad from Pink Paislee, part of the 'Favorite Elf' Add-on kit as the base and the red border.  I used a piece of gold star washi from the 'Very Merry' Embellishment kit from Freckled Fawn for part of the border. 

  

Using the Crate Paper gold striped vellum, I punched several snowflakes and added them to some

gold & white sequins from my stash, to make up the shaking bits!  The window to enclose my

shaking embellishments was a piece of a acetate packaging from the kit.  Upcycle!  The black glitter word stickers are from Pink Paislee as well, providing lots of contrast to the white and kraft papers.

I wanted to share another non-photo layout I made using the Scrapbook Circle December ‘We Are Made of Stories’ kit.  I also have a few tips for glittering wood veneer.  I did a project last month that I used on my mantle as part of my Fall decor and thought I might do the same for Christmas!

I used my Silhouette Cameo to die cut the title from the center of a piece of patterned paper from Pink Pailsee.  I backed the negative spaces behind the words using more paper from Elle’s Studio and the 6×6 Pink Pailsee pad, part of the ‘Favorite Elf’ Add-On.  Inspired by all the metallics included in the kit, I knew I wanted to use glitter and embossing powder on the wood veneer!

These are the supplies I used.  Gold and silver glitter, gold & silver embossing powder,  Versamark ink, glittering glue (any white craft glue would work) and of course the wood veneer.

I made a paste of 2 parts water to one part glue in a jar and mixed it well.  Although the glittering glue helps, it is watering it down that keeps it from clumping.

I used a small brush to paint a thin layer of glue onto part of each snowflake and dropped it into a pile of glitter.

Working in two batches, one for each color, I used my tweezers to hold the snowflake and tap off the excess glitter.  I kept tapping until nothing else fell off!  The tweezers are also great to hold something small when heat embossing.

One of the best tips I ever heard was from Wilna Furstenburg who suggested a lint roller to pick up excess glitter!  It works unbelievably well!

I had originally planned to arrange the snowflakes in a circle but decided on a heart  instead, making a bow at the top with the twine included in the kit.  I also layered gold and silver thread onto the paper before adhering the wood veneer to the background.  I matted the whole project onto another piece of the patterned paper from Pink Paislee to frame it and add stability.

HARVEST TIME - Scrapbook Circle October Kit

Happy November!

The new kit is available at Scrapbook Circle but I still wanted to share this layout from last month.

This was the best crop of tomatoes we have ever had and I needed to do more documenting that event!

I loved this cork paper as a background making the photo look like it was posted to a bulletin board.

The black and white heart paper from Fancy Pants was such a great contrast to the red that I used

it as the background as well as a piece of the 6x6 scaled down version.

I had planned to just use black, white and cork, but thought I need one more color to help the cork

and photo pop even more.

HEY YOU there! - Scrapbook Circle October Kit

I am sharing another layout using the October ‘On This Day’ kit & the ‘Right Now’ Add-on from Scrapbook Circle.

The October kit isn’t theme based for Halloween, but the colors are perfect for Fall and in this case great for a masculine page.  The exclusive Scrapbook Circle triangle stamps inspired me to make a banner, much like the Mood Board from September.  The cork banner from Elle’s Studio also inspired me to cut these a large banner shapes as the matte for the photo.

One of the things I love about Scrapbooking kits and collections around this time of year is that they remind us to focus on being thankful.  My favorite projects and pages are those that capture moments showing the blessings in our life, reminding us to be grateful now and then in the future looking back at a page like this.  This photo is of my husband and his college roommate/best man.  We don’t get to see and his wife that often, but when we do, it is a seamless return to the friendship that has lasted years…truly something to be thankful for.

I stamped lots of the triangle stamps with black,  trimmed them out and sewed them together.  The patterned paper from Fancy Pants with the triangular pattern was a great match and scale and for the banner.  The yellow ochres, cork paper and embellishments made it warm and Fall-ish.  I added some watercolor in the background to tie in those colors and stretch out the cluster a bit.

Banners and heart stamps shouldn’t be limited to birthdays, girls or other specific celebrations…how about just the celebration of life and friendship?!  I hope you all remember to document your everyday blessings…after all, isn’t that what is really important?  Have a wonderfully amazing day!

this little light - Come On Get Crafty Product Showcase

Hi there crafters! I wanted to share a layout I made inspired by the Gold Foil Paper from Pebbles, brand
new to the Come On Get Crafty shop!  It is gorgeous and inspiring...perfect for this photo of my son with a sparkler.

I love gold, all of the gold trend, glittery, smooth and sparkly!  I previously used this gold foil paper to die cut sentiments for cards and thought I would use it in reverse too; as the backing behind a die cut title.  We had a neighborhood party recently, and not out of any other cause to celebrate, but neighbors, friends and left over sparklers!  Is there anything better as a kid?  It is a little piece of magic that last 45 seconds, maybe a minute, and sometimes offers a fabulously captured photo.

I wanted the title and gold to be the focus, so I used some chalkboard paint over a piece of Imaginisce Wood Grain paper.  I knew I wanted my journaling to really pop, like the sparkler, so chalkboard paint was the answer.  I used a few other embellishments under my photo like the Crate Paper Vellum Overlays, a Dear Lizzy tag, a couple additional pieces from the Jen Hadfield 'Homemade' Pebbles collection and some Enamel Dots from Freckled Fawn.

I love using lots of little bits and pieces, but sometimes, it needs to be all about the gold!

Come On Get Crafty - A Home Made Gift

 I love making my own cards.  To me, it is a gift in itself...a little piece of hand made love and something that makes

anyone feel special!  I also love having hand made cards I can choose from, when I need a quick card or gift tag.  Using a lot of the new products just arriving at the shop at Come On Get Crafty, mostly from Pebbles and LawnFawn.

I have made little packs of simple, repetitive cards, as a gift for someone to use in their own personal correspondence.

Especially great for teachers, who seem to write endless thank you cards!

 

 
I chose several of the new 6x6 Pebbles patterned papers in grey and teal for the base of my cards,

and made a plan for each card to have a cluster around the sentiment.  Using the metal dies from Lawn Fawn,

I cut out two 'thanks' and two 'hello' script words from the gold foil Pebbles paper.  I layered each of those over a

Crate Paper chipboard frame, a Dear Lizzy Project Life card, and a couple gold stickers from the Jen Hadfield collection.

 

A few enamel dots from Freckled Fawn and the cards were done.  I tied them all together with some bakers twine,

vellum and an embellished tag.  I think they go together as a set, but are clearly different and a great standby

for anyone needing a card at the last minute!

LUCKY 13. - Scrap Our Stash June Stash Challenge!!

This is my LO for the new June Challenge from Scrap Our Stash.

It is a Monochromatic Challenge, to use only one color and different tones of that color.

You can use white, black and kraft as well...plus you have to include 5 premade embellishments.

Obviously, I chose GOLD!  I couldn't resist...any chance I can get to add it to my projects, I do...

And to be challenged to add as much as possible, whoa!  Glitter and mist all over the room!

This photo is a selfie from my 13th anniversary night...or the night we celebrated on anyway!

Shawn kept calling it LUCKY 13, instead of Unlucky.

As far as the Stash part, I used lots more than 5 pre-made embellishments:

I misted 2 pieces of wood veneers with color shine, 2 gold word stickers from Maggie Holmes, a gold doily, 3 pieces of various gold chipboard, a gold banner die cut, mini clothespin, glitter arrow sticker, gold foil vellum leaves and gold embossing paste over a stencil on the background!  Whew!

This is such a fun idea to me, because I am still loving the ombre trend and plan to
